  6.  PNG is an international attempt to replace Compuserve's GIF file
  7.  format, which is being subject to Unisys' LZW patents, by a better
  8.  and patent-claim free graphics file format. Its development
  9.  is coordinated by some american software developers, and it's
  10.  the new dedicated WCO graphics standard for the WWW.
  11.  
  12.  Of course no one can say "stop using GIF, now only PNG counts",
  13.  since there are still thousands of GIF images floating around on
  14.  CD-ROMs, some programs still cannot handle PNG, some people
  15.  simply don't want to replace GIF with PNG...

  17.  But if you want to support small software developers, like most
  18.  of the companies, shareware and freeware software developers on
  19.  the Amiga are, there is need to help them avoiding any unnecessary
  20.  difficulties - remember why you are prefering an alternative system
  21.  like the Amiga...

  24.  information, a list of Amiga software currently supporting PNG - perhaps
  25.  it is not complete, but it is just to show, that there's something
  26.  happening.
